Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express gets new & advanced features with the introduction of Tejas coaches!
In a move to assure upgraded journeys to the commuters, the Indian Railways announced on Monday that Rajdhani Express trains equipped with advanced Tejas smart coaches, are being made functional. As a part of this project, the current compartments of Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Special Express have been replaced with state-of-the-art Tejas-type sleeper coaches. While this train already ranks at the top of the available services, the latest addition will definitely revolutionise the travel experience.

Railway Ministry spokesperson D.J. Narain said that Indian Railways is all set for a revamp with the deployment of brand new premium Tejas coaches. Painted in golden shades, these compartments will ensure improved facilities for the travellers and the Mumbai Rajdhani Express train is amongst the first trains to provide this luxurious service. The representative of the ministry informed that the reformed train undertook its first journey on Monday. Narain said, "Two such Tejas type sleeper coach rakes have been made ready to run as Rajdhani Express."

He further informed that one out of these rakes consists of "exclusive Tejas Smart sleeper coaches". This is the first time that the Indian Railways has introduced such a kind of facility. Priotising the safety and comfort of the passengers, the coach is equipped with modern features and special amenities. "The smart coach aims to provide world-class facilities to passengers with the help of intelligent sensor-based systems," stated Narain.
A gamut of special facilities to enhance the travel experience

Notably, Passenger Information and Coach Computing Unit (PICCU) along with GSM network connectivity is amongst the most innovative additions to the train. The ministry official said, "PICCU will record the data of WSP, CCTV recording, toilet odour sensors, panic switch and other items integrated with fire detection and alarm system, air quality and choke filter sensor and energy meter."

Additionally, each coach will have 6 cameras will live recording facilities to ensure complete passenger safety. The CCTV cameras have a range of special features including day-night vision capability, facial recognition facility even in dim light and network video recorder. Given that all main entrance doors are controlled from a centralised device, the train will not start unless all the gates are closed. Additionally, the smart coaches also have automatic plug-in doors.
Shifting focus from 'Preventive' to 'Predictive' maintenance

The latest development shifts the focus of the Indian Railways from 'preventive maintenance' to 'predictive maintenance'. Further, the introduction of Tejas Smart coaches on long routes is another significant achievement for the railway authorities.

Amongst the most inventive facilities, there is an emergency talkback service for medical or security emergencies, panic button in toilets, toilet annunciation sensor integration, bio-vacuum toilet system, stainless steel under-frame, air suspension coaches.
